What engines are available on the 2019 Mazda CX-5?
The base engine option is not turbocharged, but it is still impressive. Drivers who have the base motor will enjoy a 187-horsepower, SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter DOHC 16-valve inline four-cylinder engine with Cylinder Deactivation. This engine contributes to up to 31 highway mpg and 25 city mpg and puts out 186 pound-foot of torque.
Now, as for the turbocharged option we alluded to before, that engine is only available on the Grand Touring Reserve and Signature models. This is the first time the Mazda CX-5 has been equipped with a turbo option and it is the same engine we saw added to the 2018 Mazda6. These trims come standard with a 250-horsepower, SKYACTIV®-G 2.5-liter I4 engine with Dynamic Pressure Turbo. This engine puts out 310 pound-foot of torque which contributes to the vehicle’s maximum towing capacity of 2,000 lbs. The added horsepower only results in a small hit to the vehicle’s gas mileage. The Grand Touring Reserve and Signature models average up to 27 highway mpg and 22 city mpg.
