Some exciting news has just been released by Mazda regarding some new engine technology that could bring turbocharging back to Mazda vehicles. Years in the making is an old idea that has now come to fruition and will hopefully be given to future Mazda cars, crossover and SUVS. A new turbocharged engine has been co-designed by Mazda and a company called Advanced Engine Research Ltd. that could change the way Mazda powers its vehicles. The engine has been given the name “MZ-2.0T”, and gets its name from how it’s configured. The “MZ refers to Mazda, the “2.0” lets you know it has a two-liter capacity and the “T” is for turbo. The Mazda MZR-2.0T engine specs are incredibly impressive and might just represent the future of Mazda’s engine technology. (more…)

Mazda has finally unveiled its new diesel-powered prototypes that will become the newest challengers in endurance racing.  After two years of planning, Mazda Motorsports will have two new factory-backed SKYACTIV®-D Smart Diesel-powered race cars in the top Prototype Class for the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship (USCC) starting with the Rolex 24 which is held at Daytona.  This marks a huge step forward for Mazda as they return to the worldwide racing stage.  (more…)

It’s been over 60 years since the last diesel powered engine raced at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  The Mazda6 SKYACTIV-D Clean Diesel racecar will mark the first time since 1952 that a diesel powered racecar will hit the pavement at the most famous track in the world, the Indianapolis International Speedway.  Mazda has been testing and refining its SKYACTIV-D diesel engine by sending it out to a variety of racetracks around the United States to compete.  The Mazda diesel engine was the first diesel racecar to ever compete at Daytona and the first ever to win a Grand Am event at Road Atlanta. Mazda is going to get serious about showing off their Skyactiv-D turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine in the new Mazda 6.  Mazda just announced that they will have three new Mazda 6 race cars in the Grand-Am GX class in the upcoming 2013 Rolex 24 at Daytona.  The new Mazda team will be made up of a five-driver team that will enter the 2013 Rolex 24 at Daytona which is a 24-hour race held on January 26th.  Mazda will be seeking its 24th class win at the famous endurance race.
